What is dolomite powder?

Dolomite powder is calcium magnesium carbonate (CaMg(CO3)2), the only common mineral that delivers both CaO and MgO in one feedstock. Learn its specs (CaO 27–35%, MgO 22–30%) and where it is specified.

Dolomite is calcium magnesium carbonate, CaMg(CO3)2. Its defining feature is that it carries both calcium and magnesium in one mineral — which is why glassmakers and refractory formulators reach for it instead of blending limestone with magnesia.

Composition and specs

Our dolomite standard TDHX-Dolomite-2025-08 specifies CaO 27–35%, MgO 22–30%, SiO2 ≤8%, Fe2O3 ≤0.5% and whiteness 80–95%, across 200 to 2000 mesh.

The combined CaO + MgO is what makes it functionally different from limestone (calcium carbonate) in the applications below.

Where it is specified

In glass and ceramics, dolomite supplies both fluxes in one feedstock. In coatings and plastics it is a bright, hard functional filler. In construction and environmental work it is used for mortar, concrete and flue gas desulphurisation.

Specify by CaO/MgO, whiteness, fineness and application; we will match the grade.
