Ground Calcium Carbonate for PVC

Where GCC sits in a PVC formulation

In rigid PVC — pipe, fittings, profiles and siding — ground calcium carbonate is the standard mineral filler: it raises stiffness, stabilises dimensions during and after extrusion, and reduces formulation cost per tonne while keeping the process stable.

In flexible and plastified PVC — cable compounds, footwear, flooring and film — GCC acts as an inert filler that adjusts hardness and lowers cost. Fineness and whiteness decide how fine a surface the finished product can carry.

Selection notes by PVC application

Pipe and fittings

Coarse-to-medium grades in the 600–800 mesh band carry high loading in pressure pipe and fittings. Consistency of the particle size distribution matters most on long extrusion runs.

Profiles and visible surfaces

800–1250 mesh balances loading and surface finish on window profiles, siding and trim where the surface is exposed.

Cable compounds

Fine grades with controlled impurities are used in insulation and sheathing compounds; if your compound relies on surface treatment, confirm the requirement with us before sampling.

Plasticised and flexible goods

Flooring, footwear and film use medium-fine GCC to adjust hardness and cost; whiteness drives the brightness the finished surface can carry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does GCC do in a rigid PVC formulation?

In rigid PVC such as pipe, fittings and profiles, ground calcium carbonate raises stiffness, improves dimensional stability and reduces formulation cost per tonne. Particle size distribution matters more than the top mesh number alone, so we recommend confirming the grade against your extrusion line with a trial before scaling up.

Which mesh suits PVC pipe, profile or cable compounds?

Typical starting points: 600–800 mesh for pipe and fittings, 800–1250 mesh for profiles and other visible surfaces, and finer grades (1500–2500 mesh) for surface-critical or high-fill applications. These are starting points, not limits — send us the formulation target and we will confirm the closest grade with a TDS and a sample.

Are the grades coated or uncoated?

The grades listed on this page are uncoated. If your formulation requires a surface-treated grade — common in cable compounds and some high-fill profiles — tell us the treatment requirement and we will confirm feasibility and quote before samples are shipped.
