Talc Powder for Plastics

Why plastics compounders use talc

Stiffness and heat resistance

Talc's platelet particles reinforce the polymer matrix: in PP and other polyolefins they raise flexural modulus and heat deflection temperature, so parts keep their shape at use temperature.

Dimensional stability

Filled compounds shrink and warp less, so moulded parts hold tolerance better — what matters for large-area panels and thin-wall packaging.

Anti-blocking for films

Fine talc keeps PE and PP film layers separable in the roll without relying on heavy slip dosing.

Low abrasion

Talc is the softest industrial mineral on the Mohs scale, so it is gentle on screws, dies and calender rolls even at high loading ratios.

Matching the grade to the application

ApplicationGrade direction
PP compounds & automotive interior parts1250 mesh and finer — surface finish and stiffness at moderate loading; finer grades raise modulus but cost more per tonne.
EVA foamingFine, high-whiteness grades disperse evenly into the foam and support a more uniform cell structure.
PE / PP film anti-blocking1250–3000 mesh — the finer the grade, the lower the dosing needed for the same anti-block effect.
Masterbatch carrier systemsHigh-whiteness fine grades for clean colour and stable dispersion through the masterbatch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do PP compounders choose talc over other mineral fillers?

Talc combines reinforcement with low abrasion. Its platelet particle shape raises flexural modulus and heat deflection temperature in polypropylene, while its Mohs-1 softness keeps wear on screws and dies low even at high loading ratios. That combination of stiffening effect and gentle machine wear is hard to replace.

Which talc fineness suits my plastic application?

As a starting point: 325–800 mesh for cost-driven structural and moulded parts where high loading matters most; 1250 mesh and finer for automotive interior parts, appliances, films and masterbatch, where surface finish and dispersion matter. Send us your polymer and target loading ratio and we will propose 2–3 candidate grades with samples.

What documentation comes with each shipment?

Every order ships with a certificate of analysis covering the indicators agreed in the contract, and third-party inspection can be arranged before shipment on request. The ranges in the table above are typical production ranges; final values follow your confirmed specification. Samples are free, with courier cost on the buyer.
